In the United States 1 in 9 people struggle with hunger. Millions of children and families living in America face hunger and food insecurity every day. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, unemployment has soared and food insecurity is on the rise. In 2020 more than 54 million people may face hunger because of coronavirus, including a potential 18 million children.
Hunger can affect people from all walks of life. Many Americans are one job loss or medical crisis away from food insecurity – but some people, including children and seniors, may be at greater risk of hunger than others.
To achieve a vision of a hunger-free America, the root causes of hunger must be addressed as well as a deeper our understanding of structural and systemic inequities that disproportionately impact marginalized communities and people in need of assistance.
Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. Thanks to donations and support from businesses, government organizations and individuals, the Feeding America network of food banks, pantries and meal programs serve virtually every community in the United States — 40 million people, including 12 million children and 7 million seniors.
The Feeding America network provides over 4.3 billion meals annually, helping 1 in 7 Americans facing hunger live more secure and stable lives.
“OSC Edge is proud to support Feeding America. We are committed to giving back to the community where we live and work. Our team of employees donated $2,420.00 and with the dollar for dollar match, OSC Edge donated a total of $4,840.00 to Feeding America! This is a wonderful outcome and we are thankful for all the employees who were able to donate,” says Tiffany N. Bailey, CEO of OSC Edge.
